2009 Poster Artist Virginia McNeice

ABOVE: Dawn Flight, Poster painting for 2009

The 2009 Artist Virginia McNeice’s paintings are well known for their iconic barns using strong colors with intense shadows and pure form.  Her love of our rural countryside is evident in every painting and pastel work she produces.  The pastel art she created for the poster reflects these qualities of light, color and form.  Titled “Dawn Flight” the original art was the subject of a silent auction during the course of the Balloon Festival, with the final bids made June 7th at the Pilot’s Brunch. The new owners are both Balloon Sponsors this year also. The painting was purchased by Rick Tinkham Tinkham Real Estate and Dr. Andrew Cowder, of Monument Urology. Thanks to the artist for her generous donation of half the proceeds to the festival.

Virginia is a graduate of Pratt Institute and has been painting in oils and pastels for many years.  Her artwork has been displayed in many galleries across the country.  Recently she has participated in the Landscapes for Landsakes fundraiser for the Agricultural Stewardship Association, the Open Studio Tour (which will be happening again this summer July 18 and 19) and is a longstanding member of Valley Artisans Market in Cambridge.  Virginia also teaches a class in pastels at Hubbard Hall. Keep an eye out for her next session.

The Cambridge Valley Chamber of Commerce is honored that Ms. McNeice agreed to create our 9th annual poster art this year.  Contact the Chamber for posters, 677-0887 or by e-mail cambridgechamber@gmail.com
ABOUT THE ARTIST: Virginia McNeice's work in oil and pastel is inspired by nature, and her primary focus is upon color relationships, contrast and the effect of light at various times of the day. She lives and works on an old farm in Cambridge, NY. Born in New York City, McNeice attended Pratt Institute of Art and has studied at the Art Student's League, SUNY Albany, Skidmore College and the Vermont Studio Center. "I paint the landscape because I live in a beautiful area of upstate New York. When I stand out in a field in front of the woods, a pasture or pond I am stimulated by all the possibilities that present themselves to me-the colors-the light-the dark shapes. It is all so wonderful and full of promise."
